The hand engraver, Alex Thompson, was a graduate of Bowman Technical School, Lancaster, Pa, in 1971. This school taught watch and clock repair, jewelry repair and manufacture, and hand engraving. The school was very similar to Gem City College, Quincy, Ill., which is still in existence. I studied jewelry repair and manufacture, and hand engraving.

I studied many styles of engraving, with emphasis on traditional styles and methods of design and shading. All lettering and monograms are drawn freehand with no templates or patterns being used. In the early days, I used only hand pushed gravers, and also the hammer and chisel. This was before the microscope and power driven gravers were in existence.

Today, I use a Meiji microscope and GRS GraverMach AT in addition to hand pushed gravers. I engrave the traditional styles as well as the more modern styles of lettering and monograms. I work on jewelry, all metals including steel, silver holloware and silver flatware. I also engrave family crest rings and any style of logo or artwork the customer may design or desire. An engraved picture of your house, children or family pet may be a favorite on a presentation piece or pendant. You may want to engrave your initials or a game scene on a firearm. Please contact me for any special work, and I will gladly quote a price.
